Night of 1,000 Stars Event
The coalition presented at the Night of 1,000 Stars – an event that represents the 1,000 badges across Washington who work to keep impaired drivers off the roadways. These officers included our own here in Hoquiam, such as Lieutenant Dayton!
MyTOWN’s social media manager, spoke to the law enforcement officers about our gratitude for their work and shared how we are trying to change misperceptions through our social norms campaign.
In addition, a representative from Hoquiam High School’s Grizzly Prevention Squad shared the gratitude of Hoquiam youth by gathering student signatures. He continued to speak about the work that they are doing ensuring a greater understanding among youth of the effects of substances and how we can always make better choices. He also introduced the Student Assistance Professional that supports the Hoquiam youth that are struggling with these choices.
If our community can change the perception about substance use before drivers get behind the wheel or before they allow youth to engage in substance use – then we can help keep impaired drivers off the roadways as well.
